People come to counsellors to explore their difficulties or dissatisfactions or perhaps when they feel they've lost a sense of purpose or direction. You may be dealing with loss or a crisis and feel that you are distressed or alone.
Counselling does not involve giving advice or directing you in any way. It is a way of enabling you to arrive at your own decisions and to start to make more satisfactory choices or changes in your life and of reducing any confusion you may be feeling. By offering a safe space and time to explore your own issues and experiences within a supportive relationship, you can find your own strengths and solutions, and feel connected rather than alone. Counselling takes place in a confidential setting.
"Counselling helped me to put things into perspective. I was made to feel that everything I was feeling was not stupid or wrong, but perfectly acceptable considering my experiences, and I was then able to move forward."
"This is the first time I have received counselling, it helped me find myself again."
"I found talking about my problems to someone who did not know any of the people involved gave me more confidence to actually say how I really felt and not pretend everything was OK. My counsellor made me feel that I was perfectly normal, and not someone who was going mad. I now know that I will be able to cope with my future."
