Co-Active Coaching allows the client and coach to work together to identify both work-related and personal areas of development.
Co-Active Coaching is based on the premise that you are the expert on what you need. As a coach I ask questions and guide you to where you want to go. Co-active coaching is built on four cornerstones.
1. You are naturally creative, resourceful and whole. Most of the time you will already have the answers you need to achieve success although they may be buried deep inside. It is the coaches job to help you discover them by asking powerful questions. Just like the characters is the Wizard of Oz, you already have the Brains, the Heart and the Courage that you need to take you where you want to go. At times you may need to learn specific skills or techniques, but the most important stuff is already there.
2. Co-active coaching addresses your whole life. When a tennis player hits a slump, the problem usually lies outside of his or her tennis playing. So too with the rest of us. We need to look at the whole person when exploring change. A co-active coach will work with you to develop balance and fulfillment in all parts of your life. This is why I call it Whole Life Coaching.
3. The agenda comes from you. You decide what is important for you or what you should do. The entire relationship is focused on your desires, wants and needs. A Co-active Coach acts as a facilitator and mentor of your plan. The coach will bring all their experience and expertise into the relationship and put them at your disposal.
4. The relationship is a designed alliance. This is not a one-size-fits-all program. Together you and your coach design a relationship that works for you. The power of co-active coaching comes from that alliance which is unique to your relationship.
