How CPW Furniture Improved Their Bottom Line

Andrew Maylam, Commercial Manager, CPW Furniture writes:

We had an inexperienced Management Team and wanted advice on how to develop our managers. Janet, from Icando, came in during June 2002 and carried out a training needs analysis with the management team, as a result we were able to focus our management training. In addition Janet gave us feedback on areas of the company that were not working as efficiently as they might, this gave us a sound basis for starting our journey of continuous improvement. At the same time we decided to work towards the Investors in People Standard.

Over the next 2 years we improved our company image and new systems were put in place, we worked on developing all the staff within the company as well as our managers. Janet was very influential and a great help in supporting us whilst we made the changes and delivering the training to up-skill our managers.

How We Benefited:

  • Increased turnover from £6.7m to £8.0m
  • Gained market share in 2 new export markets (Ireland & France)
  • Successful re-branding of the company
  • Gained substantial recognition of the new CPW Brand
  • Managers more effective in managing performance and quality standards
  • Continuous Improvement embedded at all levels
  • Increase in staff moral and commitment
  • Awarded the Investors in People Standard in March 2004

Janet continues to work with the company, mainly concentrating on my own development as a Member of the Senior Management Team. It’s good to know CPW will have excellent coaching support as we embark on the next stage of our journey
